The Last Picture Show
Anarene, Texas, like other small towns, is approaching the end of an era. The exhibition takes its title and themes from Peter Bogdanovich's Oscar-winning 1971 film, a melancholy coming-of-age tale which mourns its characters' loss of innocence as they search for identity within their small community. The local picture house, a childhood haunt, embodies this process as it crumbles into irrelevance. Starkly beautiful monochrome cinematography acts as a tribute to films of the silent era, providing an overarching visual commentary on the power of image, whether static or moving, isolated or interwoven.
